Commercial sites for survival kits are a great resource. Few of us can afford these ready made kits, but the lists of what they contain are an excellent way to plan your own kits, built over time. They cover items you might not consider, and you can then shop around online or at your local retailers for the best prices and items that best suit your needs. Always start with the basic needs: shelter (this includes clothing - anything that protects your body), food and water, warmth, first aid, medication and hygiene, a light source, and an information source. These are the first order or business. Then, you can expand from their adding on items that assist you with the basics (alternative ways to cook, more advanced medical/first aid supplies, food for long term storage, etc.) You don’t have to break the bank to be prepared. Create a plan, and follow through.
